Just had to post here my appreciation of Casty's "Shadow of the Colossus" as brought to us by IDW's MM 10 & 11. I had actually read this story earlier, in French in Mickey Parade Géant (so, smaller dimensions), but it's *so* much better with IDW Disney's paper and color quality and Jonathan Gray's dialogue. Everything looked and sounded great. Loved the clash of the titans, and the monkey-see-monkey-do, and the indefatigable Eurasia. Loved the "since I was this tall" panel. And Mickey's response to "Am I goofy, or is thuh shadowlossus' head smokin'?"
I'm much looking forward to the next Casty Eurasia Toft story, the "Fantamello" story involving the search for Atlantis--that one I haven't read yet, though it has been published in French. I guess now we'll probably have to wait for that one till 2017, since the regular MM series will be suspended until November. At 37 pages, it should probably fit into a single issue, whenever IDW gets around to it.
I also enjoyed the Brazilian story where Mickey encounters the Gneezles. Nice to see how those Brazilians love them some Barks! It's not really a sequel...but you can't really have a sequel, when fergettin' juice is involved. But I was pleased to see Old Gnasty Face, and the swellers, and all. The story brought back memories of another non-sequel with a Barksian character, William Van Horn's "Creature Comforts" with the Fermi named Enrico, my favorite of all the many WVH snow-filled stories.
Fun to have all those silent letters in one story, the Gneezles' "g" before "n" and Eega's "p". Mostly I have found Eega's silent "p" annoying, but here it was amusing to see it combined once with the Gneezles' "g" (PGNEEZLES). (I say "silent p", but are we to think that Eega actually pronounces all those p's?) And the Gneezles' "g" is used once before another silent letter before "n", in "gknow"! Back in school we once figured out that an English word that phonetically begins with the "n" sound could actually begin with g, k, m, n, or p. If you count the Dnieper River (not English, but as pronounced in English) you can add "d" to that list. Ya gotta love the glorious mess that is English orthography.
