Yes, "Secret Santa Spell" is this one, the third and final entry in Artibani's Magica family trilogy, and it's indeed a great one. (We do plan on bringing the second story here, we just haven't found a slot for it. Since the family and continuity were established in last year's "Great Rock of Power Plus", the other two can be run in any order freely.)

The second story would have been perfect to have in this years "Giant Halloween Hex", but it looks like that title ended in a one-shot and not an annual series.

I do not see his name in the credits of these solicitations, but I think it is important to remember that the Magica's clan stories - and many other good duck and mouse stories by Artibani - are co-written with Lello Arena.
Arena is a famous man in Italian mainstream culture. He was an active Neapolitan theatrical/tv/movie comedian from the late 70's to the 90's. He's mainly remembered as the sidekick of his colleague Massimo Troisi, an emblematic figure of the Neapolitan culture of the 20th century. Arena's relative fame as a comedian kinda shadows his later (sporadic but important) career as a comics writer, always in team with Artibani.

I'm happy for "Secret Santa Spell" especially since I really like Minima, and this is the only story with Minima which I haven't read in one language or another. At least, I'm pretty sure of that...when you click on "index" on Minima's character page on Inducks, the issue is confused by several stories which were apparently mistakenly indexed by folks reading another country's comics as including Minima when they actually have Giovanna Bo's "Witch Matilda" character, or Bruno Concina's "Streghella" (who is in turn confused with "Witch Child"!).

Personally, I'm not that big on the second of the "Magica family trilogy", "la furia degli elementi." I like the Minima/Ratface byplay throughout, but I could do without the Cupid's arrows stuff, and especially without Daisy wielding a rolling pin on the last page. The Girl Weapon. Where is she supposed to have procured it? Does a rolling pin just magically appear in a woman's hand when she's angry?

Art-wise, it'll be interesting to compare Camboni's depiction of Magica's family with Cavazzano's.

Don't forget "Whatever Happened to Scrooge McDuck," in which EVERYONE carried rolling pins into battle. Due to misunderstanding decades of embarrassing tradition, the artist perceived them as "The Duck Weapon" rather than as anything specifically gendered...

Who cares? It's funny. Besides, in today's ultra "gender neutral" oversensitive society, aren't the guns in classic comics getting replaced with rolling pins anyway?

It's especially funny when it's Daisy, because unlike Magica, who's an evil failure, Daisy's a completely irredeemable bitch, so the meaner they are to her, the funnier. I never got why Donald just didn't tell her to beat her own goddamn rugs.

"She sprained her jaw talking too much!" may be the best line Carl Barks ever wrote.

Yes. Also, for same strange narrative alchemy which I do not really understand, the meaner they are to her for the sake of the comedy, the more the sexist aspect is decreased. At least as I perceive it. Then of course it depends on the sensibility of the author. In La furia degli Elementi, as much as I can remember, she was portrayed decently even in her overreaction.  

On the other side, I can try and put myself in Matilda's shoes and say that, in "today's ultra gender neutral oversensitive society", it is a bit suspect that women are always to ones to pay a tribute to de-neutralize it.

And yeah, context is everything... There are a few Martina stories that try to be "progressive" but are so poisonously misogynistic they make my stomach hurt; the less said about the Western Daisy Duck's Diary and Minnie Mouse stuff the better. The whole point of the Artibani story(ies) is to show a determined, flawed female lead who eschews most things feminine... only to be thwarted by a homemaker who got home-wrecked in her greedy conquest. Given there's about five individual female characters in that story, I think Daisy holding a rolling pin threateningly over Magica--one gal to another--is fine. Maybe she should grab a gun next time.

True, Monkey_F, Daisy is portrayed decently, apart from the rolling pin itself. And my problem with the rolling pin is mostly that it's such a cliché of feminine "housewifely" violence that it takes me right out of the story. "Oh, the Girl Weapon," I thought as soon as I saw it. "And where did she get it, anyway?" (They are all at Magica's at the end, right? Though it's not clear how Daisy and Donald got there.) I'd rather she had got ahold of one of Magica's foof bombs, for instance, and had held that over her. Or Daisy could have commandeered the Cupid bow & arrows and threatened Magica with making her fall in love with Rosolio, or with Ratface. But there's other fine, funny stuff in the story, and I liked the pantarba stone a lot, and I expect I'll like the Santa story, too.

By the way...in the German version, Magica calls Granny De Spell "Aunt Caroline" while in the French version she calls her "Grandma Caroline". In the American version of Pantarba, she is Magica's grandmother. I assume that's the case in the Italian? And why did the German translation turn her into Magica's aunt? (Of course, then she could be Minima's grandmother, rather than her great-grandmother.) Scrogerello: I just tried to look at your Magica family tree to see what the relationships are there, and wasn't able to access it anymore. But your Streghella thread led me to David Gerstein's clarification on Witch Child and Streghella, which I had forgotten when I wrote my first comment above. Though my basic observation still stands, about the confusion in the index of stories featuring Minima.

Yes, she's "nonna" = grandma in the Italian original, as she is in our American version. Gee, Granny De Spell's relation to Magica sure got overhauled in other languages. Gosh, and I thought we yankees just bastardized those stories.

Maybe she looked too young to the German translator to be the grandmother of a grown woman, so he/she turned her into an aunt.  (Forgetting or not noticing that these people are supposed to have hundreds of years in these stories.)  

Speaking of looking young, they keep making grandma' Duck look more and more young in recent Italian stories. Ok, she always had blonde hair in her Italian version, but typically a light faded blonde. Now the colorists give her full strong yellow hair, and with no sign of oldness on her face or in her mimicry she starts to look weirdly young...

I know you keep trying to rope into further discussions on localisation, but I'll point out that this isn't really an argument in your favour- I'm pretty sure in the thread you so hated, me and other specifically also pointed to German localisation as something that wasn't ideal

Regardless, in the same way I hope we can put the overall passive-aggressive sniping at localisation behind us, I also suggest you move on from sniping at those who prefer more straight translating.
