Hi, I've been looking for a couple of the books from fantagraphics "lost in the andes", "trail of the unicorn", "The Lost Crown of Genghis Khan" & "The Mines of King Solomon".
I reckon they will get restocked at some point, but I prefer to collect them in the gift box sets.
Does anyone know if the gift box sets are continuously reprinted?
The "Lost in the Andes" volume includes "Voodoo Hoodoo", featuring Bombie the Zombie, a character which Disney has currently banned from reprinting. Bombie is the reason why two Don Rosa stories are also currently blacklisted by Disney. So I doubt that volume will be reprinted anytime soon, at least in its original form.
As far as I can tell, "Lost in the Andes" is currently out of print, despite having gotten quite a few printings over the years. A year or two ago, I spotted the volume in a Norwegian comics shop. If I recall correctly, the copy they had was the fifth (!) printing, from 2016.
That's a shame, I wasn't aware that carl barks books got affected by the ban too ,

Its completly out of stock everywhere too.
Yeah, it is. I don't know if it being unavailable right now is directly connected to "Voodoo Hoodoo" or a coincidence.
As long as you know the reason for the Rosa problem, it's obvious that Barks' story with Bombie is blacklisted too. The problem for Disney is the character. It's the same as with Brer Rabbit and Uncle Remus.
Today I received cave of Ali Baba. I ordered it on Monday by Bol.com. It took three days to arrive.
Thanks!
I took the plunge and ordered it too from Bol.com. I've got very bad experiences with web-stores if you paid them and afterwards they appear to not have the item in stock. Trying to get your money back or to cancel the order is neigh impossible on some web-stores.
Anyway: it arrived in a day in my letterbox! Amazon.nl doesn't have it. I got another reply from Fantagraphics. The customer service person said that when he started working for Fantagraphics that they didn't sell outside of the US. I think he means that Fantagraphics themselves didn't because Bol.com and Amazon most definitely did. He continues to say that then for a while they could. Again: probably from Fantagraphics' point of view. Amazon etc. is another story I guess. To make a long story short: Fantagraphics is not the best of sources to ask if their comics are available in country so and so. They can not be expected to know what Amazon and Bol.com will and won't do.
I'm very curious to see if the next volume (October 2023, vol. 4 "Maharajah Donald") will be available in Europe/Holland on Amazon and/or Bol.com. Blackwells in the UK might be an alternative source outside of the EU for the Fantagraphics books. What a SNaFU.

I can confirm that in the past Fantagraphics was not delivering Disney Comics outside of US for licensing reasons but I was always able to order from Amazon without problems. Amazon was buying them from the US and delivering it to Europe. Then it looked like a couple of years ago Fantagraphics itself was able to sell to Europe because when I was going on their website they showed a popup telling me I could order directly from them from Europe. I'm not sure if the situation is changed again but I was always able to order through Amazon until a couple of months ago.
Now I cancelled my Amazon order and tried to make the same order from Blackwells. Let's see if they will deliver. I will keep you updated.

Thanks for the info. Do you live in the EU? People in The Netherlands and Germany can order on Bol.com. And did cancelling an order on Amazon go smoothly? We ca only order "Cave of Ali Baba" from affiliates/external sellers on Amazon. Wonder if one can easily cancel that.
BTW Ordering from an US based company directly and then shipping it to the EU would be very expensive in my opinion because of shipping and Custom clearance costs etc.
If I am not mistaken Bol.com does not send english language books to Germany. At least they flat out refused to fulfill my order. I tried and registered with Bol, only to get a message that said my book (an issue from the Disney Masters) cannot be delivered to my address. I was able to order from another bookstore in the UK. Amazon was my number one seller for US Books, sad to see them going this Route now.

So you live in Germany? Bol stands for "Bertelsmann On Line". It's originally a German company (Wiki). Bol.com might be their Dutch department. Did you try the German "version" of Bol? Link to "Cave Of Ali Baba": www.bol.de/shop/home/artikeldetails/A1066960747 . At the moment of writing that link says (Google translate from German): "Can be delivered in 1 - 2 weeks", which means that they don't have it in stock or they don't want to....
The thing is that while a lot of the german branches of international bookstores let you pre-order american Comic Books, they never get them or a long time after release. So, ordering from them is not very reliable at all. Therefore bol Netherlands seemed like a good idea. It was worth a try I guess, hopefully Amazon will come to its senses.
Great that they're adding Barks only Mickey story for this volume. Hopefully they might add "Pluto Saves the Ship" for the first volume. The last time it was reprinted was Another Rainbow's Library.
Hooray for “Riddle of the Red Hat”! That’s always been one of my favorites, even if it’s really nothing special other than being Barks’ only Mickey comic. I had fun discussing it with Mark Severino and Thad Kommorowski on the Barks Remarks podcast.
Maharajah Donald has become a very nice book again. When I first leafed through it, I couldn't find any censors.
I think "The Firebug" will be in volume 3, because it was the second story in FC 108 next to "The terror of the river", which is printed in this volume.
Volume 2 could then include "The Mummy's Ring" and "Frozen Gold" in terms of the longer adventure stories, and of course Volume 1 will have "Pirate Gold" as the cover story. Theoretically, "The Mummy's Ring" could still fit into Volume 1, but I think that would be a better cover story for Volume 2 than the other longer stories that are left.
With the remaining missing volumes, I'm looking at 4 to 6 more volumes, depending on whether something like "Horsing Around History" and other later non-Barks works are included, and how many pages the volumes will have.
By the way, the new book also includes a new restoration of "Donald's Atom Bomb". In the European Carl Barks Collection, the story was printed only as a facsimile. The version in the new Barks Library volume looks qualitatively like all the other stories. Very nice.
