No clue, but they've banned Little Hiawatha completely, so they might be extending that ban to every story featuring Indians and this is just one they found before this volume went to print.
Really?
Yes. The Norwegian hardcover series that used to print complete cover-to-cover reproductions of classic issues in chronological order started skipping all Hiawatha stories about two years ago.
on why Latondra Newton "departed"... a cynic might say she was more likely fired because she OPPOSED the new censorship! The censorship trend has been gathering momentum for some time - so it's unlikely they'd fire someone for SUPPORTING it! What? me a cynic? No way!

a business is supposed to generate money for the company, her decisions has made disney lose money - it is as simple as that
the comic censoring has only worsened since she began her career at disney in 2017 up to this day, therefore I do not see how the claim that she would be against censoring could be valid
You do not actually know what's going on behind the scenes or who's doing what, and censorship's been going on at these comics for before this woman joined. Jumping in to finger her as the specific culprit and posting outrage bait youtubers commenting as such is using her as a scapegoat for things you're unfamiliar with for no reason (and no, not everyone was okay with it, as each post you've made has been reported multiple times). You've been told twice now to stop, I deleted your latest one, next time it's a ban. You want to go talk about "le woke SJW liberals censoring us and the brave anti-sjw youtuber and news website is proving to us that it's this woman in specific that's the culprit for it all!", you can go do that at some facebook group.

let's set things straight here. I have not made anybody a scapegoat, I have pointed out that she was the head of the diversity operation which is responsible for tampering with original material as well as directing new produced dito in order to retrospectively influence and re-curate today's culture. if she was the head of that sectional operation at disney, she is per default the one with the main responsibility of that whole endeavor - as any manager/director is in any company.
why do you consider Latondra Newton woke sjw liberal, do you know what she voted for is the latest election? here you are assuming things, while pointing finger on me. you have to keep things non-personal and without letting politics interfere on this forum.
Now I ask for you KKM to provide a source on the news of Latondra Newton being fired from the position of Diversity Officer at Disney so people reading this thread's progression don't get confused when you have censored material I was referring to previously here, this only because I have provided 3 different sources but you have not explained why they are not factual, despite they contain people reading published news articles and commenting on them- all which only accessed when they are clicked on by a forum reader, so it was never any forced content up on anyone, they all choose to click to view them. So now be kind and post the news of her firing here, from a source you have chosen, for the good and logic of this thread.
Voodoo Hoodoo could fly in the Barks Library in 2011 but about 10 years later or so mere words are removed from stories in the same book series, a whole story hidden because of a fox, and Bombie was forbidden to be shown even tough zombies are pure fiction, like all Barks' other characters and stories I might add. stories featuring American natives removed almost to a tee. Newton she was hired as a diversity officer in 2017, that is what I am saying.

Come on dude, all you're doing is pointing to the hiring date of a specific person and then pinning all kinds of blame on her based on absolutely nothing. Similar censorship and bans have been happening at other companies like DC during the same period (an announced collection of the first 26 issues of Detective Comics got canceled due to DC deciding there were a lot of stories in there they didn't want to reprint, for instance), it's not something Disney exclusively is doing. This person may have been leading the division at Disney that was putting these bans into action, but she's definitely not the sole person responsible for them. Honestly, gladzooks' theory that she was let go because she DISagreed with these bans makes more sense.

if we agree that she put thoughts into action, would not that make here responsible?
that is the logic of responsibility the whole judicial system runs on, committed criminalized action are charged and prosecuted, thoughts which don't come to fruition into action are not prosecuted
I hear you on more people behind realization in a company but a in corporation (from corpus) there is hierarchy and responsible managers, like when a person decide ta eat lunch, is it the cells signaling for food or you as an individual who choose to ingest a meal?
I don't see what would make a case that she would be against comic censoring while having introduced them to a greater degree than before. are you implying she only worked for money's sake until now?

No, I'm saying that just because she was leading this division doesn't mean all this censorship was her IDEA (it's presumably Disney's PR people that are pushing for it), and that for all we know she was let go because she thought Disney should be LESS heavy-handed with the censorship and banning and her bosses disagreed.
The point is that we don't know what's going on behind the scenes, so it's silly to point fingers at any specific individuals. Especially when it comes to preemptive damage control to protect the company's reputation and bottom line, since that's the kind of stuff the guys on the top are generally very interested in doing.
The actual truth is that this largely happened because the success of the 2017 Ducktales show led to the American bigwigs at Disney realizing that Disney comics were a thing that existed that they weren't really paying much attention to, which then further to them realizing that if they don't step in with some heavy modern content guidelines, someone might publish an unacceptably non-politically correct comic that Twitter learns about and starts screaming at Disney over. And they don't want that to happen, hence all this censorship and banning of things that could potentially cause outrage.

I have not pointed fingers on her, I pointed out the news that she has been fired now after being employed since 2017.
I do not see how the disney pr division would be higher up in the hierarchy then the diversity team, so don't assume that the diversity operation was led by the pr group.
and as you say she could have been let go due to her being not enough heavy-handed with censoring is really hard to imagine, if we look at what disney has let go trough out to the public during her time but never before, in the latest disney children's movies there have been depictions of gender dysphoria and sexual exhibitions, that were never allowed in older disney children's movies, things that always were censored before at disney - so we may agree that disney could have wanted even more of this but she would not suffice - but it is very hard to conclude when the censoring at disney is at an all time low now except for the race-idea, as we see more and more non-western-world based characters vanish from comics - and we do see that the classical comics are being subject to more censorship then ever before.
we have to ask ourselves, is disney mitigating their ideas to fit our opinions or is disney trying to inject their opinions into us? if they ban characters, what rings on water will appear? surely there are smart people at disney who have thought in these terms
I hope people will forgive me if I've just banned this guy (and the other one). I simply do not have the patience for the slow process of getting this brerfox to realise what he was doing wrong, what to change, etc etc. If he couldn't inherently intuit what he was doing wrong (and of course, good odds he did, and was pretending not to), I just don't have the time to work through that.
Everyone else seems, some more contentiously, some less, to at least not be fully in the outrage politics mindset of blaming the useful scapegoat (who happens to be a minority? convenient) for everything wrong with the world. We'll keep the thread open, like with the Don Rosa one, if only to keep track of further censorship etc, but not for the sake of clickbait like that.
I bought the complete Gladstone books which reprinted the WDCS with all the Barks stories. Currently reading issue 1 and enjoying it. I am looking forward to also see these stories in the complete library.

Me too. I also have a set of those and am very much looking forward to those first 4 volumes. We should be getting Maharajah Donald in October.
Does anybody know if volume 28 "Cave of Ali Baba" is already available in Europe via Bol.com or via Amazon? It was supposed to be available from 20 June 2023 but Bol.com ask a suspiciously high price and they don't even have a picture of the comic itself. And on Amazon you can only buy it via one of their partners, not directly via Amazon... Usually I can order Fantagraphics' comics directly from both of 'm and they have a picture of the cover.
