Sorry to be going off-topic, but would you recommend the Walt Disney Comics & Stories Vault?
To be honest, this is the first I'm hearing of it. Does it contain much that couldn't be found in other volumes? If you're going for collecting most of the other books anyway, is it worth getting?
It contains issues 721-734 of Comics & Stories (minus the Zodiac Stone saga chapters which are in their own book) as well as the 75th anniversary special issue. Everything in it should also be available among the other trade paperback releases but I think it's worth having as a hardcover.

That's good to hear - I've ordered it, and I also ordered Zodiac Stone separately!
I generally avoid the trade paperbacks unless the content in them is unavailable elsewhere. Not that I have any issue with them, but when they're collected in a larger volume, I usually prefer to go with that.
I've been trying to branch out as of late - I spent a decent amount of time as a Barks/Rosa purist. Thankfully, I realized the error of my ways.
Neither Barks nor Rosa is even my favourite Duck author at this point - just goes to show what broadening your horizons can do, eh?
Resident autistic, diabetic duck fan.
I love hearing about bizarre/obscure Disney works - recommendations welcome!
I see that The Zodiac Stone has been mentioned several times, lately. I had not heard of it before some years ago, but someone mentioned it and I ordered it a few years ago. I like the cover and the start story, however I didn't think it could keep up with the great start and it seems just like they tried binding several stories to make a full story, however it was not well thought out and not great story telling. I don't think a good story came out and most of the chapters are quite boring in my eyes. It could have been a lot better in my opinion.

Do you guys like the story?
It's not really "a story", but 12 separate stories loosely tied together by a plot thread that's only relevant for a page or two in most of them. The stories vary a lot in quality and it's pretty clear it was chosen for translation into English because of the supposed "big epic crossover event"-ness of it, not because it was an example of a classic, high-quality beloved story.
If you want big epic Italian crossovers, the 1988 Olympics tie-in "Paperolympiadi" is the one that's considered THE true classic (might be a bit too political for modern-day America, though).

I like it. Given that I chose my forum name from a villain who debuted in the story, maybe not so surprising. But I was introduced to it in an odd way - I specifically wanted to have Spectrus' debut and didn't know it was part of a bigger story, so I bought LTB 157 and read chapters 7-12 before chapters 1-6! The thing is that the chapters are meant to work as standalone stories; you'd picture somebody who would only buy a Topolino now and then, and who would still want to understand something without having read all the previous chapters. So that's why it's relatively loose.

I disagree. If you look onto the German forums you'll see that there is plenty of love for the saga.
What also makes it rather unique is that, somehow, it manages to get in almost all of the story genres prevalent in Topolino at that time:
- Time travel with Zapotec and Marlin - Sci-fi - Treasure hunt - Magica attack - (humorous) ghost story - Duck Avenger vs. a villain - exotic locations etc.
Another volume that would be nice is a complete Disney comics of Walt Kelly volume. Sure, it would be a bit shorter than usual as he has made only 130 pages of Disney comics, but it would be a nice addition to Fantagraphics' Pogo by Walt Kelly series. Btw, the only Walt Kelly Disney book that has ever been released is this Italian volume from 30 years ago but it does not contain all his Disney comics: inducks.org/issue.php?c=it%2FCCD+++5

Do those 130 pages include covers? Because Kelly did quite a lot of those for Walt Disney's Comics & Stories.

Kelly's covers are some of most beautiful of that era, and graced the cover of many an early periodical. Too bad there's about 100 of them, that's a bit too much for a Disney Masters volume. And they'd probably have to be recolored, which would be a massive shame.
On the other hand, the name Walt Kelly might sell better in the USA than other volumes...

130 pages of comics + 100 pages of covers sounds like a nice Disney Masters volume to me. And I'd imagine they would either print scans of the original covers or recreate the old colors, considering what they've done with the Barks and Murry books.

It isn’t my favorite story, but I do like it because it’s an excuse to get everyone together (Mickey and his friends, Donald and his family, various villains both old and new) in one lengthy celebration of Disney comics characters and story tropes. Also, the art is very well drawn and the English localization is a lot of fun to read.
Question to hex : How do you find out when new Fantagraphics books are added to Amazon?
I just do a seach now and then to see if I find new Disney comics being added on Amazon. But depending on what Amazon site you use and your location settings you won't find all books in the search. So what I do to serach for American books is:
- go to amazon.com (and not co.uk, .de, .fr etc.) in private mode in the web browser (= not being logged in, and no cookie data being used)
- Up in the left corner it might still say "Deliver to <your counrty>" based on what IP you have. So I click this and type in a random American zip-code to change the shipping settings the USA (ex. 91521 for Burbank)
- THEN I can start searching
Easy-peasy
ps. If anyone have a tip on how to exclude the gazillion of unlicenced coloring books and other self-published junk from the seach result, please let med know!
