As y'all have probably observed, I re-read certain Duck (and occasionally Mouse) stories throughout the year at the appropriate holidays: Christmas/New Years, April Fools Day, Easter, back-to-school day, Halloween. I also read my favorite birthday stories around the time of my birthday.
In recent years this list has included two stories of Donald's birthday (Rosa's The Duck Who Never Was and Korhonen's Another One for the Album), two of Gladstone's (Rosa's Triple Distelfink and Michael T. Gilbert/Vicar's Party of None!), and one of HDL's (Ed Nofziger's Stolen Birthday). This year these will certainly be joined by Stabile/Perina's Wonderful Wishing Crown, the first "Scrooge's birthday" story I've read that really satisfies. (I have sometimes taken out the floogle bird story which I remember from childhood, or Lockman/Strobl's Birthday Blues for Strobl's drawing of the feline Arab mogul's acrobat troupe!, but neither is such a great story.) I've read many other birthday stories--probably a dozen more "Donald's birthday" ones!--but these are my faves. Unfortunately, I haven't found any stories of female characters' birthdays that have stuck with me. I've read a few of Daisy's birthday, one of Grandma Duck's, one of Mim's--all pretty boilerplate. While some of the McGreals' stories make my personal favorites list, I don't happen to like either their "HDL's birthday" story or their "AMJ's birthday" story.
What are your favorite Duck birthday stories? And have you read any good stories featuring the birthday of a female Duckworld character? I haven't gotten to see either Byron Erickson's Grandma's Day or Gorm Transgaard's Baffling Birthday--the latter is well rated on Inducks. Is there a scanlation of either of these? I could get either one in a language I could read from eBay, but in each case it would be pricey.
