To continue the discussion started on the "The Three Cabrellos get their own TV show" thread here:
I think we can summarize that there are a few main types of beaks that the "duck" characters have in the Duck comics universe:
(A) The Basic Duck Beak, that Donald and Scrooge have, of which juvenile (e.g., HD&L) and, depending on the artist, female ducks (e.g., Daisy and Grandma) have a shorter and slightly broader version. It is rounded, flat on the top, and has an upper lip.
(B) the Von Drake Beak, which differs from the Basic Duck Beak in being heavier-appearing, more squarish, with the upper jaw overlapping the lower jaw laterally and lacking a clear upper lip. Ludwig is the only comics character who has this that I know of, although as has been pointed out, most DuckTales '17 ducks have something of a variation of this (HD&L and Webby have a shorter version with a prominent chin)
(C) The Coot Beak, which has no upper lip, has a pointed tip and is narrower than the Basic Duck Beak, with a V-like appearance head-on. Cornelius Coot, Comics-Clinton Coot and (in the hands of some artists) Fethry have this type of beak.
(D) The Narrow Duck Beak, which seems to be a mix between the Basic Duck Beak and the Coot Beak, being narrower and pointier than the former, but differing from the latter by having a defined upper lip that is clearer head-on and being less upturned (Glomgold and Gladstone are examples).
(E) The Darkwing Duck beak (and variations thereof); longer overall, a broader, thicker upper lip with mouth edges recessing into the cheeks and a prominent chin. The Darkwing Duck version of Launchpad differs from Launchpad-87 by having an upper jaw that resembles this type of beak (without the mouth recesses).
Are there any others? Gus Goose's beak doesn't really fit into any of the above and is very variable from artist-to-artist but seems closest to a smaller version of the Coot Beak and may or may not have a prominent chin and/or mouth recesses. I didn't include obvious non-Duck characters like Gyro, José or Panchito.
