This 80's story, in Finnish, is about Scrooge travelling to South America when he was young to do business, and I wonder if it was originally South Africa.
In Finnish at least the ship sinks at Cape of Good Hope, which is in South Africa... Plus Flinty is in this story. This was back when South Africa wasn't mentioned at least in the Finnish comics (where Flinty lived was just kinda vague)
I wonder if it was South Africa in the script originally but it was changed into South America but they forgot to change the mention of Cape of Good Hope.
The story still works but it makes it a bit weirder...
I always subconsciously corrected it in my head to be South Africa and only now when scanlating it realized it wasn't...
Can anyone check how it is in different languages?
I'm not with my Oom Dagoberts right now, so I can't check the Dutch text. But, logic tells me that they changed the venue to South America, but just forgot to change the reference from "Cape of Good Hope" to "Cape Horn".
Yeah it seems likely to me... It would also be interesting to know if any translations or the original script make any implication Flinty was originally from South Africa... This story predates Don Rosa's The Terror of the Transvaal it'd be interesting to find an earlier story that explicitly said or even implied Flinty was born in South Africa.
