As we await the Donald Duck book, which hopefully will be published this year, I would like to as Ramapith a question:
Have you ever pitched an illustrated coffee table book about Disney Comics to any publisher (Fantagraphics, Taschen, Egmont, etc.)? One that would be like the comic related sections of the Mickey Mouse Ultimate History book, except about all Disney comics?
I did—though it eventually evolved into a more comics-heavy book, the Disney centennial book published by Fantagraphics.
This is not to say a more history-heavy book, with fewer complete stories, couldn't happen. I'd still like to see it, even if I don't have time to produce it this year.
Taschen's big Donald Duck book was originally going to get published like 3 YEARS ago! What the heck is going on with that book?
There's LOTS of different things it could be, but with Ramapith probably under a NDA, we can only guess. Sometimes publishers hold back for synergistic reasons, but you figure a character's 90th anniversary would be a primo release window, especially with summer being a popular season to release books. There's things like how many copies have to be printed, re-reading the manuscript for errors, coming up with ways to market the book once an announcement is made, etc. And if this book really is 624 pages, that's a whopper! I'm not an expert when it comes to putting together a book, but if you're putting out something that big and heavy, I figure you're gonna want to cover all your bases.
Fun fact: This will be 129 pages thicker than the Mickey Mouse tome.
Taschen does usually announce their books well in advance but not always, so it's certainly not impossible. Btw, I wonder what it depends on whether Taschen announces one of their books in advance or not.

I had a feeling that some of the sketches shown off at the D23 panel, Donald Quacktacular, were related to the Taschen book. Didn't wanna jump the gun at that moment in time, but wouldn't you know it, Ramapith confirmed it on Twitter.
Looks like you lucky ducks across the Atlantic get Donald's book a whole month early in September...at least via Barcelona Comics. I don't know if there are any other pre-order links available besides the one that was provided. I'm sure they'll start to trickle out soon though. No release date confirmed yet for those in North America, but if I understand correctly, it looks like it will be available to purchase in October of this year. Guess it's just a waiting game at this point.

Do you have any idea if the Barcelona Comics version is in English? I want to order ASAP and I'd get no charges from Spain
EDIT: It does say it's in English in the Product Details... If anyone has any input, it'd be much appreciated - I really want to order the book, but I also want to be able to read it

Another update! This time from the always reliable Catsuka: x.com/catsuka/status/1827722302399954979 (this is just the announcement tweet, but it does link to pre-orders). I'd link a picture of the cover, but it's just too big and I can't make it any smaller. It's a beaut! Still no news from Taschen themselves, but I assume that'll change soon.
