Correct code for Mickey Mouse: The Ultimate History 40th Anniversary Edition: AUG201607
For those that couldn't afford the expensive 1st edition ($200 SRP, now at $100 on Amazon), I can highly recommend this book! From the Amazon description: "The 40 series presents new editions of some of the stars of our program―now more compact, friendly in price, and still realized with the same commitment to impeccable production." The size for the new edition is 6.1 x 8.5 inches vs. 12.5 x 3 x 18 inches for the original book, but it doesn't sound like any content will be cut.
Following up on this Mickey Mouse Ultimate History book because the copy I preordered recently came in.
Wow. I know this is a smaller edition of a larger book but it's insane that this only costs $25. I don't have the larger version to compare anything to but this is a 500 page hardcover behemoth of a book. Flipping through the book, it seems that it covers Mickey's entire history up until I guess the time of the 90th anniversary with many illustrations throughout it and while Mickey's animated appearances are the main focus, there is a section about the comics.
Can't wait to see the other book on all the animated movies created during Walt's lifetime which will be promising if this book is anything to go by.
Looks like Dark Horse have stopped publishing Disney comics too.
One I've been expecting but haven't seen announced by any publisher is a Soul graphic novel. The new Pixar movie has a digtal release on Disney+ today. And the upcoming Raya and the Last Dragon: The Graphic Novel is not going to be published by Dark Horse.
Also, Disney Villains: Ursula and the Seven Seas seems to have been cancelled. It's deleted from Previewsworld and Amazon say release January 2, 2079

There are still some Disney Princess trades and The Story of the Movie in Comics titles that haven't been cancelled yet. It could just be that the whole movie industry being shaken up that's been changing plans with comic adaptions of Soul and Raya and the Last Dragon coming out.
Interestingly, I don't think Incredibles 2: Slow Burn #3 was ever released as a single issue though it's trade release did come out and also should be part of the library edition hardcover.
Edit: So while double checking Amazon for any upcoming releases to add to the schedule list in my signature, I found this cover art for Disney Afternoon Adventures Vol. 1.
Now I hate to sound mean about this but I SINCERELY hope that is just a placeholder image that will be replaced later on. I feel that using artwork from the Boom Studios Darkwing comic on the cover is going to be misleading and confuse people into thinking this is a collection of those issues which it isn't. It would be awesome if Fantagraphics were able to give those comics their own collection later down the line but it just doesn't belong here.
If anyone working on this book is reading this, please don't use this cover art on the final product.

I’m wondering if this upcoming line should get its own thread but I was going to post on the Disney Afternoon book which I just saw yesterday but you did first. I’m excited that Fantagraphics is doing another line of stuff I’ve always wanted to see more of. Their Gottfredson Mickey, Rosa and Barks Donald, and the more recent Disney Masters line have been must buys for me when they’ve come out so adding a new line is great and I’ll be buying these as well.
Based on the contents of the book I don’t like the cover as it makes it seem it’s a Darkwing Duck book when it’s actually a Disney Afternoon book. Add in that it’s a Boom cover and it’s even more confusing. In this volume we get Just Us Justice Ducks which has been reprinted before in a one-off graphic novel but is a great story to start with. We also get the Goofy Movie adaptation which will be familiar to most and Legend of the Chaos God which I’ve never heard of but sounds like a great mashup of Disney Afternoon cartoons.
I’m looking forward to this as well as seeing what they bring out next.

Aggg.
The Disney Adventures stuff is cool, but... for just a moment, I thought that the Darkwing Duck comics were finally coming back.

I love hearing about bizarre/obscure Disney works - recommendations welcome!
Does Ramapith or anyone else have any update on Taschen's upcoming "Donald Duck: The Ultimate History" book (similar to their previous "Mickey Mouse: The Ultimate History" book)? Last summer I learned that it would be released this summer but it's still not listed on Amazon or Taschen's website.
It's baffling to me how The Nightmare Before Christmas can manage an ongoing comic while basically every other Disney property that's not Star Wars struggles to. I know Nightmare is very popular but it's also a holiday movie and doesn't strike me as something people would want to read about year round. I don't know.
Actually, does anyone have any idea what to expect from the Disney Adventures book?
The Amazon description has "In "Just Us Justice Ducks," Darkwing Duck and DuckTales' Gizmoduck are called to action when the Fearsome Five -- Negaduck, Megavolt, Liquidator, Bushroot, and Quackerjack -- successfully take over St. Canard! Then Goofy and Max take a trip on the open road... far from Max's beloved Roxanne, but into the clutches of a Bigfoot in the original comics adaptation of A Goofy Movie!" The only original story mentioned in the description is Legend of the Chaos God - which is interesting, but I don't know if it warrants buying the full volume.
Do the adaptations add anything of interest, or do they fall into the usual category of just being inferior retellings of the movies/episodes? Should we be expecting enough original content to justify a purchase? Never read Disney Adventures outside of the Chaos God story, so I don't really know what to expect.

Good questions. The big crossover comic "Legend of the Chaos God" does have me curious, though.
Personally, I'm hoping a future volume of this series focuses on the Disney Adventures Gargoyles comics, as I'm a big fan of the Gargoyles TV series (and one of the Disney Adventures comics even provided the inspiration for an episode of the show). Speaking of which, I'd love to see a proper book reprint of the Gargoyles comic books from Slave Labor Graphics too.
