I promised my self I would stay out of this, discussions of this kind are not my style and that's not why I became a member of this forum. But I have to say this. Today I finished reading the complete British "Literature Classics" series. Translations range from "merely passable, leaving a lot to be desired" to "bland and uninspired" all the way to "so horrible it must have been done by soulless robots that actively hate humanity". The whole experience left me longing for the Torcivias, the Komorowskis, the Grays and the Gersteins of this this world.
I don't think I could handle more than one of any of those guys (especially that Komorowski). Seriously, thanks for the kind words. I, too, am immensely disappointed with the translations in those Literature Classics books. (There's also the added "bonus" that most of those stories aren't very good to begin with.) There's exactly one that I think managed to survive, Carpi's "War and Peace", which (at least in the Comixology incarnation) reads like someone actually cared, and that includes Carpi. That is one I would love to get a crack at for publication here...
