Now, i've been thinking about something...
Scrooge has some Duck relatives, which wouldn't make any sense considering that his parents' last names are McDuck and O'Drake...but what about his grandparents?
We know Grandpa McDuck, Grandma Mallard, Grandpa O'Drake and...what's the last name of Downy's mother, who some fans associate with the italian Grandma Jenny?
What if Jenny's maiden name was Duck?
The Duck family from which Quackmore comes from descends from Captain D. Duck, who came to the Americas in 1620. But there are Duck relatives who still lived in Europe through the 1700s and the 1800s. Maybe they came from a different Duck family who stayed in the old world until the XIX century? The scottish McTavish Duck and the english Dinald Duck are some examples
Is it possible that Jenny is a member of this supposed european Duck family? It would make things a LOT easier
If Jenny was a Duck, Silas Elias could be her father. Daniel and Dinald her brothers. Swashbuckle, Mazuma, Tom, Drake, Harry and even Moby Duck, who apparently was said to be a cousin of Scrooge once, could all be related to the european Duck family
Scrooge appears along the elders of the "Duck Clan" in The Giant of Duckburg. Could this be because his grandmother was a Duck? And the Duck Clan from this story might not be the most common Duck family, but the Ducks who stayed in Europe until Daniel Duck came to Duckburg
It's a strange theory, but yet it makes sense, at least for me
Also, in Don Rosa's original sketch of the Duck family tree, Downy's name was Downy Duck. Of course, this is a scrapped content, but does hints at the possibility that Downy is somehow related to a Duck family. Not necessarily the one we all know
Even if Jenny were a Duck, this wouldn't exactly simplify Whitewater's situation. He is a Duck with a McDuck uncle. This implies that his father was a Duck and his mother was a McDuck. In your scenario, Whitewater's mother would be from Scrooge's father's side of the family, while Whitewater's father would be from Scrooge's mother's side. This doesn't result in incest, so I guess it's fine. It is, however, rather confusing.
If the Elders of the Duck Clan were from Scrooge's mother's mother's side of the family, then that would at least explain why they call it a clan rather than the usual Duck Family. I'm still not a fan of there being two major Duck families around.
I've never noticed that Rosa's sketch names Downy "Duck". Fascinating. I wonder what he was thinking. I'm glad he changed it though.
Also, since you brought up Daniel Duck from The Giant of Duckburg - In the next update I'm planning on merging him with Danial (the civil war soldier-ancestor from a Taliaferro strip) and some other civil war-era Ducks. It appears that the intent was for them all to be the same character, ie Donald's great-grandfather. I don't think the Daniel vs. Danial thing is a big deal. And I can't imagine that their parents would give two of their sons so similar names.
