I like the idea that the mouse-couple from The Nifty Nineties is Mickey's grandparents! They could be retconned into being Grandpa Joe and Gammy from Duck the Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special. That would however mean that Mickey's grandfather would not be named Mickey... Are the mice from The Nifty Nineties given first names?
They are not given first names in the short as far as I can remember, but they are in the text form of the story that appeared in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories (INDUCKS).

I finally was able to watch The Goofy Adventure Story the other day and realized that there is a bunch of misinformation floating around about it online. This inspired me to make this family tree.
Here's a list of the characters:
Generation 1: Gilbert: Goofy's nephew (paternal or maternal not specified). First appeared in Relative Genius.
Max Goof: First appeared in Fathers Are People as George Geef's son, then in The Goofy Adventure Story as Goofy's son, and finally in Goof Troop as Max (once again, Goofy's son).
Generation 2: Joe Dawg: The Goofy Adventure Story retcons the Goofy in For Whom the Bulls Toil as Junior’s “Uncle Joe”. In The Goofy Adventure Story, Goofy says that Uncle Joe is on Goofy and Junior’s branch of the family tree, indicating that Joe is on Goofy’s side of the family – not Junior’s mother’s. Goofy refers to Joe as “your uncle Joe” when speaking to Junior, which indicates that he is Goofy’s brother (and not Goofy’s uncle). However, there is no concrete evidence that Joe is in fact Gilbert’s father. Both of the two candidates (Joe and Gaffy) would have to have left their family soon after Gilbert was born (Joe to Mexico and Gaffy to the jungle). However, out of the two, Joe seems the most likely to me. But there’s always the possibility that Goofy has yet another sibling who is the parent to Gilbert.
Dippy Dawg (Goofy): Originally named Dippy Dawg but later known by his nickname “Goofy”. First appeared as an unnamed old man in Mickey's Revue, then as a young Dippy in The Whoopee Party. Dippy first appeared in the Mickey Mouse strips in Enter... Dippy Dog!.
Goofy’s wife: First appeared in Cold War as George Geef’s wife.
Generation 3: Goofy’s mother: First appeared in the cartoon How to Be Groovy, Cool and Fly, featured in the House of Mouse episode Big Bad Wolf Daddy.
Benjamin Dawg: First appeared in the House of Mouse episode Goofy’s Menu Magic. His design resembles Dippy Dawg’s original design from Mickey’s Revue. As Dippy is not mentioned by name in Mickey’s Revue, it could feasibly be retconned into being Benjamin. It’s mentioned in Goofy's Last Stand that he was a railroad man. In A Goofy Movie, Goofy has a map that has been passed down from generation to generation. It originally belonged to a “Walter P. Goofey” who then gave it to a “Benjamin Goofey”. Considering that Goofy has a grandfather named Walter, it is likely that Benjamin is the name of Goofy’s father. However, as Goofy’s real surname is "Dawg", I have changed Benjamin and Walter’s names accordingly.
Amos Goofy: The Goofy Adventure Story retcons the Goofy in African Diary to being Amos Goofy. Amos is Junior’s grandfather on his mother’s side. In other words, Amos is Goofy’s wife’s father. (This guy was the reason I sought out The Goofy Adventure Story in the first place, because the Disney Wiki says he’s Goofy’s father! But it turns out he’s not. The Wiki also says that Tiger Trouble actually happened to Amos, but this is also false. Tiger Trouble is repurposed in The Goofy Adventure Story, but it is a made up story featuring Goofy himself.)
Generation 4: Grandma Goofy: First appeared in ZM 44-09-10. Since she is called Grandma “Goofy” and not Grandma “Dawg”, I put her as the wife of Ebenezer Goofy.
Ebenezer Goofy: First appeared in The Goofy Adventure Story. While he shares the surname with Junior’s mother, he is most definitely Goofy’s grandfather, as Goofy holds up a picture of Ebenezer and asks Junior “Notice the resemblance?” in The Goofy Adventure Story.
Walter P. Dawg: First mentioned in Goofy's Last Stand, where Goofy claims that his (presumably paternal) grandfather was Colonel Longjaw Goofy, who went to war with native Americans. In Pippo e l'asso dei cieli, we meet Goofy’s grandfather Walter. Apparently he has the same surname as Goofy in Italian, so he would be the paternal grandfather. I guess this could be retconned into being the same character as Longjaw, with Longjaw being a nickname.
Generation 5: Wilbur Goofy: First appeared on the Goofy family tree in The Goofy Adventure Story. He was alive in 1901. Admittedly, timeline-wise, this would line up better if he was in Ebenezer’s slot, but Goofy already has too many grandfathers.
Generation 6: Wyatt Goofy: First appeared on the Goofy family tree in The Goofy Adventure Story. He was alive in 1880. Admittedly, timeline-wise, this would line up better if he was in Wilbur’s slot, but Wyatt has to come before Wilbur.
Gilbert's father was a Spanish Torrero??? That makes no sense to me. What story said that or even intimated that?
Below the tree, within the quote you cited, I explained where every relative is from. Here it is again:
Joe Dawg: The Goofy Adventure Story retcons the Goofy in For Whom the Bulls Toil as Junior’s “Uncle Joe”. In The Goofy Adventure Story, Goofy says that Uncle Joe is on Goofy and Junior’s branch of the family tree, indicating that Joe is on Goofy’s side of the family – not Junior’s mother’s. So, no story has ever claimed that Uncle Joe is Gilbert's father. I just picked between him and Gaffy. That being said, as has already been discussed in the thread, Uncle Joe is probably the brother of Goofy's wife, whereas Gilbert is the son of one of Goofy's siblings. In other words, not even I agree with this tree anymore. In fact, it's rather likely that Goofy has more other brothers besides Gaffy. TheMidgetMoose already mentioned Geefy. There might even be more, considering Goofy grew up in a large family according to ZM 53-06-07.
Goofy: Guess it comes from growin' up in a large family! Yuh like lots o' people around...
They are not given first names in the short as far as I can remember, but they are in the text form of the story that appeared in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories (INDUCKS).
I just gave it a rewatch. It's hard to hear, because their voices are so high pitched, but I think "Grandma" says "Mickey! Stop this thing!" at around 06:50 when their car is about to hit a cow.
I do hate when a character and their father and grandfathers and great-grandfathers all have the same name. I much prefer the name Joe (or Joseph) for Mickey's grandfather.

I agree with not enjoying all characters to have the same surname, but I think that grandfather and grandson having the same name is alright as long as every generation in the family doesn't bear that name. There are plenty of children named after their grandfathers. The part that I like less is that the text story I gave the INDUCKS link does say that the grandmother's name is Minnie, and in Boat Builders, which Roots of Goofy assigns to Ebenezer Goofy and thus, presumably, to other duck and mice forerunners, the titular boat is named the Queen Minnie, presumably after one of its builder's loves. Mickey falling in love with a gal who has the same name as his grandmother feels like more of an indigestible coincidence than Mickey simply being named after his grandpa. I actually forgot that Duck the Halls called Mickey's grandfather "Grandpa Joe." I just remember that it made Mickey British and a nephew of a Queen Victoria and Prince Albert parody.

(Jag = I/me)
I don't want to link Gilbert with a father who ran away to Mexico. My vote is to assume that Gilbert is the son of Geefy Dawg, or another brother of Goofy, with whom Gilbert grew up as a child and teenager. Perhaps Geefy was air headed like Goofy, and Gilbert was frustrated by his father's refusal or inability to "improve his education level and rationality" to become a better example for Gilbert, and someone for whom he could be more proud. And so, Gilbert vowed, to himself, to be the first of Goof/Dawg clan to be ultra rational in thinking and to value education highly, and graduate from multiple university graduate programmes, and have one or many careers in the sciences.
I can confirm that brother LOOMY exists, but it would seem that it is only a nickname.
Thank you so much! I wanted to know if Loony was really Goofy's brother or not for a while now! Great! Loony may be as much as a nickname as Goofy is... Not actually sure what Goofy's legal name is, but I think the name "Goofus D. Dawg" has been discussed on this forum as having some weight.
No matter what I say or do, know that Jesus loves you.
So, it seems like Goofy has (at least) three brothers: Gaffy, "Loony", and Geefy. As for who is the best candidate for Gilbert's father:
Gaffy left for the jungle "20 years" ago" and Gilbert is at most supposed to be a teenager in "the present". Gaffy is therefore disqualified.
"Loony" appears to be a nickname. I guess it would make sense in "comic logic" that Gilbert's father would be as intelligent as he himself is, which would make a person nicknamed "loony" a weak candidate. However, "loony" wouldn't necessarily mean that one is stupid. Rather, it could also apply to some sort of mad scientist, which would fit Gilbert's father rather well. That being said, we know next to nothing about Loony, other than the fact that four ribs have gone.
Finally, Geefy... we know next to nothing about him either, other than that he had a crazy laugh as a kid.
Actually, "Looony" says that "four ribs have gone already! — and one leg is going today! — and yesterday his heart fell off the hook!"
It would seem he is suffering some weird disease, and Mickey asks: "What hospital is he in?"
So, Goofy replies: "He's not in a hospital Mickey! He's just opened a butcher's shop!"
Ah, okay! So he's a loony meat salesman. That's not very Gilbert-y, but there's nothing saying he still couldn't be Gilbert's father.
I think we have a choice of two types of fathers for Gilbert. An intelligent one who he emulates, and is pushed by to get maximum education, and have a career in Academics, or The Sciences. OR, a not so intelligent, airheaded, goofy type, who Gilbert, understands and accepts, but makes him want to be the exact opposite, and seek to better himself through maximum education and a career in The Sciences, or as a member of This Planet's highest level Think Tank.

On the topic of Gilbert's father/Goofy's brother, I've wondered before about the main character of the cartoon Teachers Are People. As already discussed on this thread, specials like The Goofy Adventure Story and Roots of Goofy have retroactively identified some Goofy-like characters from a plethora of Goofy shorts to actually be Goofy relatives and not the real deal. In that spirit, I wonder if we could or, to an extent, should identifythe titular teacher of the aforementioned short with one of Goofy's brothers. This teacher goof has a redheaded boy named "George" in his class. "George" was, of course, the name of Goofy during this time -- "George Geef." "George, Jr." was his redheaded son. The George in Teachers Are People does not seem to be the son of the teacher, which is just my inference from their interactions and George not arriving at school at the same time as the teachin' dawg. My hypothesis is that George is in an older, more rambunctious George, Jr., now wearing glasses after a trip to the optometrist, and that the teacher is not his father but is rather his uncle, Goofy's brother. If this hypothesis were true, then the "teacher brother" would be a pretty good candidate for Gilbert's father, a man who somewhat fits RobbK1 's "type one" for Gilbert's father.

If, as INDUCKS implies, the kid in this Sunday Page was Gilbert, then those adults would be his very parents.
Wow, I've never seen that Sunday page before! This Goof-kid seems to be a bit younger than the Gilbert we're familiar with nowadays, but this Sunday page could probably take place when he was younger. The only problem would be if Gilbert's age doesn't match up with Morty's. I'm not familiar enough with Morty & Ferdie and Gilbert to know what their ages should be in relation to each other.
At any rate, this Sunday page is a great find! I know it's an "if", but these relatives of Goofy are to my knowledge currently the best candidates for Gilbert's parents! Needless to say an important piece of the puzzle!
By the way, does anyone have access to a higher resolution version of the Sunday page? It would be great to really get a good look at these Goofy relatives!
