From what I recall Darkwing was ment to be more of a obscure show that has a small cult fallowing and from our duck crowd only Launchpad remebers it (and Mrs. Beakley )
Perhaps. But if DuckTales '17 is set in present day (which by all indications it is) and the in-universe Darkwing Duck show ran during Launchpad's childhood, 20-25 years ago, I find it incredible that there are no Internet groups, fan-fiction sites, and shipping-based fan-art sites devoted to it, that anyone searching for "Darkwing Duck" (a name Drake Mallard isn't shy about using) wouldn't stumble upon. I admit that the way DuckTales '17 brought Darkwing into its universe is clever and original, but it just doesn't stand scrutiny (not to mention, a nobody being cast as the lead in the reboot movie? Unheard of).
My favourite part was the space battle, especially where Penumbra seemingly sacrificed herself. Also, the ending scene with F.O.W.L. shows that the Phantom Blot (a Mouse universe villain) is part of the Duckverse too and Rockerduck is seemingly still alive (he seems to be stuck in ice like Scrooge and Goldie were)?
Penumbra should have actually sacrificed herself; would have given the finale more emotional depth. And yes to the Phantom Blot, but I'm not sure how I feel about another character (Rockerduck) being given a "life extension" of some sort (they could have had one of his heirs appear as a villain instead).

Well one* can argue that Launchpad ismply is such a nostalgic freak he dosen't fallow modern cinema enough to recognise Malard who could have been a semi-celebrity at this point...
To be fair there are examples of lead characters being cast in a big block-buster reboot movie by no-name actors (The kid who played Mowgli in the "Jungle Book" movie... One can also argue that the director was such a super pretensional ground-braker it felt in character for him to cast a no-name for the lead role.

At the very least Drake Mallard should expect a cease-and-desist letter from whoever owns the Darkwing Duck character (cue the Simpsons' Blue-Haired Lawyer)!

Wait ... it isn't Scrooge, is it?
It is Scrooge, I think we're meant to assume. He bought the rights to make the movie.
That being said, even if it weren't, why would he get a cease-and-desist letter? I've never heard of a cosplayer being sued for copyright infringement. If he started trying to sell things based on "his" image, that might be different, but dressing up as Darkwing as such? Nah. (He could, were this the real world, be sued for vigilantism and associated offences… but since Gizmoduck is apparently "Duckburg authorities' top man" per the rocket landing scene in Moonvasion, it would appear that like most comic-book superhero settings, Duckburg law now has specific provisions for superheroes in which Darkwing would fall.)

Penumbra's "sacrifice" reminded me of The Last Jedi. As for the life extension thing, well once they've done it with one character they can do it with all of them, for all I care. Such a stupid decision to do that with Scrooge. I was ready for his Klondike past to be entirely ignored, I was ready for a floating timeline, I was ready for nothing but a meta joke, but the life extension thing just comes with so many awful implications I hate it.
I'm thankful the Phantom Blot doesn't look as bad as he did in the original Ducktales, with a mouth on his mask (somehow) and pupils in his... holes? I don't know why he has green eyes here though, what was wrong with white?
Yes, the Blot and Glomgold must be taking the same diet pills ... sold, no doubt, by Louie Incorporated.
Al I hope is that they won't give him mouth ... For whatever reason Blot with a mouth looks to wird for me.
I think it's because it makes him more cartoonish. My favorite characterization is the one with blank, pupil-less eyes and no mouth.
Now, compared to the versions where he has pupils or expressive eyes, this one is far more intimidating, probably because it looks like someone that could exist in real life. It's like Ghostface, in that anyone could put on that cloak and mask and commit crimes, and we have no idea who's behind that. The other versions look more like a cartoon character or like a supernatural being, which is by no means bad, but robs him of a bit of what makes him so intimidatin here.
One thing you can count on this show to deliver is epic season finales. Strangely enough, I got a "Dangerous Currency" vibe from "Moonvasion!", probably because of all the characters that were rammed in.
I think Season 3 will have more of a "Dangerous Currency", having the Ducktales/Darkwing Duck put together, and the presence of Phantom Blot. In fact, from what I could see of this version, he reminds me of the Blot from Darkwing comics:
The green color of his eyes seems to reference his Epic Mickey incanation, though. While I prefer the stoic eyes, I understand that they need to make him minimally expressive in animation.

Another thing I can't say I'm a fan of is the recurring joke that Glomgold's beard is fake and detachable ... okay, so he's a bumbling, immature, over-the-top comedic villain, but why he can't he grow an actual beard?

His real beard, as we saw in The Ballad of Duke Baloney, is black. Glomgold is actually in his 40's or so (it's stressed in Ballad that Duke Baloney the fisherman looks much younger and healthier than Glomgold ever did). But he wants to appear older, the better to imitate Scrooge; hence a fake black beard and an exaggeratedly hunched position.
Seeing how this show (for better or worse) Is using elements from the comics in unexpected way (Bombie cure, Phooey duck) what elements would you love to see in their convention?
I was thinking and thinking and then it hit me... I WOULD LOVE ENTIRE EPISODE ON FLIPISM!!!! (or at least a subplot for Donald or one of the nephews) I can be a new crazy fad that take Duckburg by storm!
I'd like to see an episode, or at least a plot, centered around the Junior Woodchucks. So far, we've only seen them through Huey's obsessive interest or as the organization Dewey and Louie aren't very into (in fact, they don't seem to like it at all sometimes, and even Webby seems awkward when she has to pretend she's a Woodchuck in episode 17). Since Season 1 had Dewey as the main focus, and Season 2 focused on Louie's character development, maybe next season is Huey's time, and we can finally see a woodchuck-invested plot that treats them more respectifully, rather than just portray them as Huey's obsession that's mostly played for laughs.

This kind of gives me hope that Blot will turn into a giant ink monster in season 3. Also, we already know the Cogs exist in this universe, so they working for F.O.W.L. would be awesome
