The Taschen page lists two events surrounding the Donald book.
November 27, 2024, 05:00 PM - 06:00 PM Presentation of 'Donald Duck. The Ultimate History' TASCHEN Store, Cologne, Germany
March 20, 2025, 09:00 PM - 11:00 PM Panel Discussion: 'Donald Duck. The Ultimate History' Comedia Theater, Cologne, Germany
I thought the book had already been released at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 19. I guess this is for the new edition.
They also list a Collector's Edition now, Limited to 1000 copies. It's slated to be released on November 29th, costs a whopping 600 euros.
The Collector's Edition comes in a clamshell box and includes eight pieces of concept art, and a 128-page book with storyboard sketches for the 1939 short Sea Scouts. The book seems to be identical to the one already on sale, for all intents and purposes.
Seems a bit steep to charge 425 euros extra for that stuff. It's not even particularly interesting short. I would've liked to see the storyboards for Morgan's Gold, or a landmark like The Wise Little Hen.

Honestly, I have to say I think this was a pretty lousy move. The book itself is pretty expensive, but we were given ample time to prepare ourselves. Then, just after the initial buying window, where a lot of people to whom this would have appealed have already paid for the main book, they drop this with (as far as I know) no warning?
If I'd had the same window of time I could have saved a bit aside, but this isn't feasible at all.
Resident autistic, diabetic duck fan.
I love hearing about bizarre/obscure Disney works - recommendations welcome!
The Collector's Edition once again confirms that the emphasis was on the cartoons (and not on the comics)... Sigh...
Caballero, our 564-page book includes four chapters devoted to comics alone, totaling 154 pages. Then there are around twenty additional pages about comics scattered through the other chapters.
There's also a ton of Barks art in the chapters about produced and unproduced cartoons (including two shelved cartoons on which Barks was not previously known to have worked, "The Lone Raider" and "Nuts"—the latter a prototypical Chip 'n Dale from 1942).
After the significant focus on comics in our Mickey book, there's no way our team would short them in the Donald book. Howlin' crashwagons, man!
On our publisher page, the section marked "Read More" now contains a link titled "Download Product Images Here." It's locked in such a way that I can't link to it in this thread—but if you go there, the link will give you a zip file with two dozen interior spreads from the book, some of them about comics...
Ramapith Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work you and your co-writers have done on these two books, it's just that as someone who is far more interested in Mickey and Donald comics than Mickey and Donald cartoons, I wish around a half of each book were dedicated to comics.
Anyway, I am crossing my fingers that you will pitch a "History of Disney Comics" book to Taschen, which could combine the comic related pages of the Mickey and Donald books + an additional 100-200 pages about other Disney comics.

speaking as one having the mickey xxl book and planning to purchase the matching new donald book, I would never buy an expensive taschen title knowing that it would contain a major part "repurposed" previously published material from another taschen book, that is already owned by me... just saying - that is no good value according to me, no matter how much I enjoy taschen's production values
Psyched to receive mine today, though a little bummed that the Taschen box arrived really banged up and dinged (via Amazon). One of the HC corners appears affected just a little, I haven't had time to check to see if it affected the spine. If I recall, I'm pretty sure the giant Mickey book came double-boxed to avoid this kind of damage. Always a shame to see the weakest link in the chain at the end of the process.

They didn't put it into another box? The cheapskates! The Taschen box is part of the product, NOT a free box provided by Taschen for Amazon to be used for shipping.

They put it inside a giant box without additional packing, so the Taschen box floated around and got damaged. The Amazon box was pretty mangled and had a broken corner.
